HowToGAYPP (How to Get Around Your Proofing Page)

Proofing pages are simple and informative structures but they seem to engender a degree of confusion on two points:

1.      When viewing your proofs, remember that, unlike the frames shown below, yours have not seen final edit. For this reason, though they may be close with respect to brightness and contrast, they may need cropping, suffer correctable perspective aberrations, or require retouching of various sorts that a finished image will have received prior to delivery or appearance in the portfolio (www.covearts.com). Also, the color balance may appear to be off. This too will be corrected in the post-production image editing process.

2.      When ordering images for editing, the selection information you need to provide are the five-digit index numbers (described below).

Figure 1: Proofing pages open in Matrix view, which provides a quick overview and the fastest means of navigation.

So what you’re looking for in the proofs are not the technical points of exposure (brightness), color accuracy, or image contrast but rather compositional elements. For portraits of any type, your primary selection criterion should be facial expression and body position.

Other than the images themselves, the most important information on the proofing page are the filenames, which appear under each image in matrix view and on a ribbon in either full-screen or full-size mode(see below).

Click on any image to view in full-screen view.

Figure 2: The size of the full-screen presentation depends on your device. In many cases it is smaller than full-size view, which you reach by clicking on the image again.

For your proofs, filenames comprise a six-digit date code in the form YYMMDD and a five digit index number NNNNN. When ordering your final edited images, communicate your selections by listing the five-digit index numbers in an email.

If you have questions or experience any difficulty opening and navigating within your proofing page, contact or email for further assistance.
